Michael Carrier received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Bachelors in Applied Exercise Science from the University of New England. He is also credentialed by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and was an active member of the Maine state chapter where he presented at state conferences on topics such as “Functional Strength Training for the Overhead Throwing athlete,” and “Core Stability Training.”
Working in Boston after graduate school, he was part of a multi-disciplinary team that provided treatment and rehabilitation for members of the New Balance professional running team. While in Boston, he was also the base physical therapist for the United States Coast Guard, treating active duty members of both the Coast Guard and Navy for field injuries and post-surgical orthopedic rehabilitation. Before joining ISM, he worked as part of a large therapist team at Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, MA, where he was a lead PT in evidence based practice development, and also trained physical therapy doctoral students as a clinical instructor.
Along with his extensive exercise background, he has been trained in both passive and active joint/soft tissue mobilization techniques to the spine and extremities, spinal manipulation, Graston® Technique, and neural mobilization.
