Somatic Nerve Blocks

A somatic nerve block involves the use of a local anesthetic such as lidocaine (also known as Xylocaine®) to numb the nerves believed to be triggering pain. It is also used in a diagnostic fashion to assist in the identification of the nerves involved in the patient's pain syndrome.
