Discography
In search of the source of spinal pain, disc stimulation or diagnostic provocation discography confirms or denies the disc(s) as a source of pain. Discography is a diagnostic procedure. During discography a needle is fluoroscopically guided into the suspected pain generating disc(s). A dye is then injected and the pain level is monitored. A CAT scan or MRI then follows. The use of discography coupled with a CAT scan or MRI helps to increase the accurate identification of the pain generating disc. Discography helps spine surgeons plan corrective surgery or avoid a procedure that may not be beneficial. Discography is usually done only if a patient’s pain is significant enough for them to consider surgery.
Indications: Discogenic Spinal Pain
